Skateboarder Hit By Car Downey

A skateboarder was hit and killed by a car in Downey.

Officers were deployed around 2 a.m. to the 8100 block of Firestone Boulevard on a report of a car striking a pedestrian, the Downey Police Department stated.

Upon arriving at the scene, authorities found a Downey resident, 20, appearing to be unconscious. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

The Coroner’s office has identified the victim as Mitchell Albert Duran.

The area plans to be reopened by 7 a.m.

The preliminary revealed the victim was hit by a 2013 Honda Accord as he was walking with a skateboard while crossing Firestone Boulevard.


The driver of the vehicle, a 36-year-old Downey man, is being interviewed by detectives.

At this time, it remains unclear if he was under the influence at the time of the crash or has committed a crime.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
